"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

Telford and Wrekin road traffic accidents

If you are one of the people injured every year in Telford and Wrekin road traffic accidents that are caused by young drivers, you could be wondering about the possibility of making a claim for compensation. If you are, Accident Advice Helpline can help.

Many young male drivers lose their driving licenses in the first 2 years

According to an article published in the Daily Mail in November 2013, over 50,000 drivers have had their driving licenses taken away from them over the past 4 years. Approximately 80% of these drivers are young males under the age of 25.

The large quantity of young disqualified drivers follows an initiative taken in 1995, to cut back on the number of serious accidents caused by young male drivers, by disqualifying anybody who racks up 6 points or more in the 2 years immediately following the date that they passed their driving tests.

Many more young men than young women lose their driving licenses in the first 2 years

The figures are more damning evidence that young male drivers are significantly more likely to be involved in road traffic accidents than female drivers of any age, or male drivers over the age of 25. In fact, young men are more than 4 times more likely than young women to lose their licenses within the first 2 years of having passed their driving tests. Further analysis of driving statistics reveals that of the 48,983 newly qualified drivers who had their licenses taken away, only 21% (approximately 1 in 4) were young women.

Many young male drivers under 19 years old already have points on their licenses

Further proof comes from figures released by DVLA that show there are over 4,000 drivers, 19 years old or younger, who have already accumulated penalty points on their licenses. If you’ve been injured in one of the Telford and Wrekin road traffic accidents that occur for whatever reason; as long as the accident was not caused by you then you may well be in line for financial compensation.
