Teignbridge Accident Claim

Teignbridge is a local government district situated within the ceremonial county of Devon, in the far south west of the United Kingdom. The district has a relatively short coastline being located toward the south of the county and features the notable settlements of Newton Abbot, Ashburton, Dawlish and Teignmouth.

The district was named after the ancient Hundred of Teignbridge and in spite of being very similar in name to the town of Teignmouth the district’s council is actually based in Newton Abbot which is the largest settlement. Teignbridge is on the large side when it comes to the UK’s local government districts, measuring nearly 250 square miles and taking its place as the 56th largest of the 326 total districts in existence.

The Formation Of The Teignbridge District

As is the case with the vast majority of England’s local government districts, the Teignbridge district was officially formed on the 1st April 1974 as one of the many changes to local government brought about by 1972’s Local Government Act. That legislation reorganised local government on a national scale and created a whole raft of new districts and boroughs by amalgamating older, smaller administrative entities.

In the case of Teignbridge, the former entities which were merged were the Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Dawlish, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth urban districts along with the Newton Abbot Rural District and part of the St Thomas Rural District. This created the 250 square mile district called Teignbridge, which was named such in order to avoid upsetting residents of any of the major settlements by adopting a name of any of the others.

Population And Accidents In Teignbridge

According to the most up to date population statistics, being an estimate from the year 2011, the district of Teignbridge is home to a little over 124,000 permanent residents. This makes it only the 170th most populous of 326 districts in the UK but is still high enough to mean that the district is a comparatively busy and active one.

As such, Teignbridge is not one of the more likely locations in the UK for accidents and injuries to occur but will still see its fair share of these incidents. It is for that reason, then, that it remains pertinent to briefly discuss the issues surrounding making a Teignbridge accident claim.
