What happens if I am under 18?

If you are under the age of 18 and you want to make a claim for compensation then we will be able to help you.

When it comes to minors making claims for personal injury compensation, they generally have two options. Firstly, you can arrange for someone to act as a litigation friend and make a claim on your behalf. Any compensation awarded will then be held in trust until your reach the age of 18.

Alternatively, you can wait until you reach the age of 18 yourself and then claim in your own name and own right. In such an instance the time limit of three years will be extended. This means that if you were 13 at the time of your accident you will still be able to make a claim at 18, even though it will have been more than three years since your accident. In fact, you have up until the day before your 21st Birthday in which to initiate your claim.

Generally speaking, personal injury claims are made with the support of a legal team or at least one professional. This is because making a claim for compensation can be a complicated process and it is often best to have an expert handle matters on your behalf. However, there are no rules to state that you have to have a lawyer, solicitor or anyone else handle your claim.
