Stress of an accident at work

The stress of an accident at work can have many psychological effects. Times are hard, and with recent government cuts the idea of facing a long spell of unemployment could have dire consequences. However, financial hardship could be the least of your worries.

Studies have shown that stress can lead to all sorts of illnesses. For instance, if you suffered a trauma earlier on in life, you could end up developing clinical depression. This may result in long-term unemployment.

Then there’s the physical consequences of stress following an accident at work. Being incapacitated by an accident could leave you with a spell in a wheelchair, or worse. This in turn will exaggerate the mental stress, and heighten your depression. It could become a vicious circle.

The long-term effects of the stress caused by an accident at work are endless. With stress, you could certainly develop anxiety. It could completely change your life in ways you’d have never imagined. Your doctor may put you on antidepressants, which can sometimes make things worse.

Before long, things could escalate to the point where you’re afraid to leave your house for fear of something falling on you. It’s happened before, and it will happen again.

Getting some kind of compensation for your accident can help significantly. Of course, you’ll want as much as you can get, but even a small amount could help you cope. A break in the sun will lift your spirits no end, and help to keep anxiety at bay. A larger sum could ensure your lifestyle is maintained until you’re able to resume your job. It will ensure you can take things easy for a while. You’ll have no financial worries, and your wellbeing might even improve.

So, if you’ve had an accident due to employer negligence, you should ask yourself if you can afford not to make a claim. You’re unlikely to get any help from the government, and you could lose your standing in society completely, all through no fault of your own.

One might even say that you owe it to yourself, and all those who have suffered a similar fate, to seek financial compensation from your employer. The stress of an accident at work needn’t be a life-changing event.
