    Stoke-on-Trent Accident at Work Claim

Falls from height continue to be one of the prime causes of fatalities in the workplace. They account for over 25% of accidental deaths at work. Given their notoriety, it’s surprising that many employers still allow their workers to take risks. If you’ve been hurt in a fall from height accident at your place of work, and your employer is responsible, you should instigate a Stoke-on-Trent accident at work claim. The ‘no win, no fee’ injury claim process that we offer here at Accident Advice Helpline is at your disposal.

61year-old worker falls 5 metres through warehouse roof

A 61-year-old roofing worker was seriously injured when he fell 5 metres through the flat roof of a Gateshead warehouse. The man was one of a team of 2 workers who had been instructed to carry out repairs to roof-lights, making them watertight. No fall arrest equipment has been issued, and when one of the men fell through one of the roof-lights, there was nothing to prevent him from crashing through the suspended ceiling below and plunging the full 5 metres to the floor below.

The injury victim fractured two vertebrae in his spine and also broke his pelvis. He was hospitalised for one week. He has since recovered, although it is doubtful he will work in the roofing industry again.

Ceiling contractor fined £4000 plus costs

The ceiling contractor who employed the man put in a guilty plea in terms of breaching Regulation (4)(1)(c) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. The company received a £4000 fine and was instructed to also pay costs amounting to a further £1600

The majority of fall from height accidents can be avoided

The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) commented on the importance of correctly planning, managing and monitoring all work that is carried out at height. The majority of falls resulting in serious injury and fatality can be prevented if correct procedure is observed.
