It would be really nice to be able to say that no one is ever injured in South Tyneside road traffic accidents, that no one would ever get food poisoning, that no one will ever be the victim of medical negligence or that no one will ever die in an accident that was not their fault. But saying it doesn’t make it true and as long as people are negligent, reckless or act with intent, accidents and injuries will continue to happen.
Claiming when it was not your fault
If you have been injured through the fault of someone else, you could be entitled to compensation, as long as the accident happened in the last three years. People who cause injuries to other people should be made to pay for their actions and that is what happens when you make a successful personal injury claim against them.
In fairness, it would be most unlikely that they would pay the compensation out of their own money, most accident claims are insured or paid out of the funds of a government department. But that does not mean the guilty part will not suffer financially.
Losing bonuses after South Tyneside road traffic accidents
If your insurance company has to pay a claim out that had been made against you, this can affect your no claims bonus, and so increase your annual premium. But it can do more than that depending on how you caused the accident.
If you caused the accident in any way that the police can prosecute you for, such as drinking and driving, you could be refused insurance altogether, or you could find that your premium increases to thousands of pounds, rather than just a few hundred.
In the case of a drink driving offence you will be banned from driving by the courts, which seems to be standard procedure. So you could find that:
- You are prosecuted by the police
- You will more than likely be banned from driving for a period of time
- The prosecution can result in heavy fines and imprisonment
- When you are able to drive again, you will either find that no one will insure you or the cost is extremely high
- You could face a personal injury claim if you caused someone to be injured in South Tyneside road traffic accidents
So thinking the guilty party gets off scot free because the insurance companies settle the victims claims is not quite right. The person who caused your accident will suffer financially as well, and so they should.
