Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes you can make when you are involved in a car accident is to avoid calling the police. On this page, we at Accident Advice Helpline are going to talk a little bit about why it is so important that you call the police if you wish to be successful with your South Holland car collision claim.
Always call the police
There are some people who will claim that the accident is too minor to worry about calling the police. Do not ever think like this. Do not let the other party tell you not to call the police. If the police do not turn up at the scene, no matter how minor the incident is, then your chances of being successful with your South Holland car collision claim are going to very quickly dwindle away.
You see, the police will help determine negligence. They are professionals. They will be able to look at the scene and determine who was most likely at fault for the accident. As you may well know, negligence needs to be determined if you wish to be successful with a compensation claim. If it cannot be determined who was negligent then you will not be able to claim compensation.
Whilst the police will do their best to gather as much evidence as possible at the scene, you will also wish to put in a small amount of effort yourself, if you are physically able to do so, at least. We here at Accident Advice Helpline would love to get as much evidence as possible from you. The more evidence we have, the greater your chance of success with a claim will be.
Visit the hospital
We are a personal injury law firm. We can, therefore, only deal with cases where an injury has occurred. This could be a physical or a psychological injury. As you can probably guess, it is important that you visit a doctor or hospital as soon as possible after you have been involved in the car accident. They will be able to provide a medical report which we will, of course, use to determine the extent of your injuries as well as the impact that they are having on your day to day life.
In addition to this, the hospital or doctor will be able to look for any ‘hidden injuries’. You will be surprised at just how many people suffer from a symptomless injury only for it to end up causing them a lot of problems further down the line.
