Strathaven is an historic market town found within the South Lanarkshire region of Scotland. The town is situated at the edge of the valley of the Avon Water, around 6 miles from Hamilton, and 18.2 miles from Glasgow. Strathaven is connected to the two major settlements of Kilmarnock and Edinburgh by the major A71 road that passes through the town.
The Development Of The Town Of Strathaven
Strathaven received its royal charter as far back as 1450, making the town of Strathaven a so-called Burgh of Barony. Through much of its history, and especially during the 18th and 19th centuries, the major industry within the settlement was that of weaving but this suffered greatly when the self-same industry began to grow stronger in Glasgow.
Strangely during the late 19th and 20th centuries, when it was transforming much of the UK, the Industrial Revolution largely bypassed Strathaven and this had a profound effect. That was that the town failed to develop much by way of its own industry or employment opportunities and it is this which explains why Strathaven has largely developed to become a commuter town.
Modern Day Strathaven
Today, Strathaven is indeed largely known as a commuter town with many of its residents commuting to work in either Edinburgh, Glasgow or Kilmarnock. This does not mean however, that the town does not have a significant resident population as the data shows that it is indeed home to more than 7,500 people.
The above tells us that Strathaven does indeed include a significant amount of population, many of home commute by car on a daily basis. As a result, it can be safely assumed that the town sees its fair share of road traffic accidents and it is this which leads us onto the issue of compensation and solicitors Strathaven residents.
