Masham is a small market town and civil parish within the Harrogate district of the county of North Yorkshire. The town is sited on the western bank of the River Ure, and its name is thought to derive from the Anglo Saxon Maessa’s Ham, which can be translated as meaning the ‘homestead belonging to Maessa’ who may have been a notable settler from Scandinavia.
Around AD900 the village become the unfortunate focus of Viking attention, with marauders from across the North Sea attacking and laying waste to homes and the church alike. Mercifully, the town managed to recover from the attack, but there was one rather surprisingly long term impact of this Viking invasion. This came from the fact that it was they who introduced sheep farming to the area, which actually became something that Masham was famous for throughout its later history.
In the modern day, the town does not actually possess a railway station connected to the main British Rail network with the nearest stations being those at Thirsk and Northallerton, both of which lie on the East Coast Mainline. This lack of a station is one of a number of factors which helps to explain why Masham does only have a population of around 1,200. This in turn gives the town a number of other characteristics. For example, it means that there is less chance of accidents and injuries in the town and this means that for solicitors Masham is not likely to see a great number of personal injury compensation claims.

As mentioned above, it is the case that for personal injury solicitors, Masham is not likely to generate many personal injury claims but there are still certain types of incident which could occur in the town to give rise to a claim. These include most notably, road traffic accidents, injuries in the workplace and slips, trips or falls in a public place. This means that you may well one day find yourself in need of solicitors Masham residents.
