    Minor head injuries and concussion

One of the most unpredictable injuries we are asked to help people to claim for, are head injuries. A seemingly innocuous hit on the head may at the time seem of little consequence, but can often result in concussion, the results of which are frequently only realised sometime after the event. If you experienced unconsciousness, even for only a few secondsyou should immediately go to the A&E department at the nearest hospital. These injuries, can have serious consequences.

    Post concussion

The hospital will probably keep you under observation for a few hours. But even after you are released, you could still develop symptoms that could indicate a more serious injury. The symptoms to watch out for include:

    • Headaches
    • Disorientation, or dizziness
    • Nausea
    • Light sensitivity
    • Noise sensitivity
    • Problems with your memory
    • Difficulty with concentration
    • Unexplained feelings of fatigue
    • Depression
    • Anxiety

These symptoms are referred to as post concussion syndrome. If you haven’t been to hospital in the first place, and you suffer these symptoms after the incident, then you should get to hospital quickly. If you suffer these symptoms after being discharged from hospital, and they continue for a number of days, you should go and see your family doctor.

    Get a second opinion

Post concussion syndrome is often misunderstood by general practitioners, and if you do not think your situation is being treated seriously enough, then you should seek a second opinion, as this syndrome can be quite debilitating and may interfere with both your social and your working life.
