Helston is the second oldest town in Cornwall, Marazion holding the title of oldest. It is located at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula, and is the most southernly situated town in Britain.
It is a popular tourist destination and some of its income is from the visitors, but its economy also relies on the Royal Navy, as the largest helicopter base in Europe is just outside Helston. RNAS Culdrose has 3000 staff and is the largest single site employer in Cornwall.
With the huge amount of traffic that passes through the area, there are bound to be road traffic accidents happen, particularly in the holiday season when lots of travellers are not so sure of the roads. The most common injury to result from road traffic accidents is whiplash, a very painful and disabling injury that needs not much more than two vehicles bumping into each other to happen.
If this happens to you, and the accident was not your fault, you may be entitled to claim compensation and the solicitors in Helston at Accident Advice Helpline can help you achieve this.
What is whiplash?
Whiplash happens when you have a car accident, or any other accident, in which your head is suddenly jolted out of its normal comfort zone. Whether it is moved sideways, forwards or backwards, the effects are still the same. This then causes damage to your tendons and ligaments in your neck. If this type of injury happened anywhere else in your body, then this would be caused a sprain, although because it is in your neck the consequences can be quite serious.
Tell the solicitors in Helston about your whiplash symptoms
Your symptoms will depend on the severity of the injury, but at its worst could include;
- Pain in the neck area
- Lack of mobility in the neck
- Lower back pain
- Numbness or pins and needles in the limbs
- Muscle spasms
- Blurred vision
- Anxiety and depression
If your whiplash is mild then this should clear itself up within a few weeks. Even though you will be in pain, you should try to exercise your neck gently every day, as this will help to keep it mobile and supple.
If your whiplash is severe then this may require physiotherapy and stronger painkillers. With chronic whiplash, the length of time it takes to recover can be over a year. This can then lead to anxiety and depression that you should seek treatment for from your GP.
