If you are staying in hospital then it is likely you will already be going through a stressful and painful situation. The last thing you want to deal with on top of this is rude or disrespectful hospital staff, who will only service to make your experience traumatic. You cannot choose who you are seen by, or who looks after you when you are in hospital, at least at first, so here are some tips on dealing with rude staff, to make your experience that much better.

    Be patient

When it comes to being admitted, hospital staff are often rushed off their feet and this can make them a little tense and unfriendly. If you don’t like how one nurse is speaking to you then speak to another, but try to be patient and allow them to deal with all of the most serious cases first.

    Take someone with you

If you feel that you are being treated badly by hospital staff then take a friend or a family member to sit with you throughout the process. A rude staff member may change their behaviour when they are outnumbered, or if they feel that they may get into trouble with another person to back you up.

    Ask for a new doctor

If you simply cannot get along with the doctor that you have been given, go higher up and ask for a new doctor, explaining the situation but explaining that it is a personality clash as well, so that you simply cannot get along with this doctor.

Finally, if you really have been treated badly, then log a complaint with the hospital to report the doctor or nurse who was rude to you, as they could be unpleasant to other patients as well.
