    Avoid unnecessary doctors visits

Visiting the doctor is something most people don’t particularly enjoy doing in the first place, so it can be particularly irksome if you have visited the doctor repeatedly for no reason. If you are able to diagnose and treat yourself at home then you will not need to go to a doctor for simple issues, as often there is a great range of over the counter medication on offer. You can also save yourself a couple of trips if you write down the problem so you don’t forget anything the first time you visit your doctor.

    • Keep a diary. A diary of your symptoms, health concerns and so on will be useful for both yourself and your doctor when it comes to diagnosing you. There may be patterns in your health problems which neither you nor your doctor would pick up on, but a diary will clearly show. It will also help you to remember everything.
    • Wait before seeing the doctor if you have a virus. Unless you have a very high temperature, or symptoms which are truly worrying you, then you should wait a couple of days before seeing the doctor, as the problem may heal on its own.
    • Phone the doctor. Ask to speak to the doctor directly when you call the surgery, rather than making an appointment. If you have something which is easy to deal with then the doctor may be happy to write you a prescription for you to pick up without having to have an appointment.
    • Check your medications. If you are visiting the doctor, check all of your medications to make sure that you have enough so that you can get your prescriptions refilled whilst there for another reason.
