Bethnal Green is in Tower Hamlets, in the East End of London. It has had its ups and downs and now has a mixture of wealthy resident and poor Asian residents, with the white working class not as predominant as in earlier times. It has been the site of a tragedy, as on March 3rd, 1943 people were rushing to get into the Bethnal Green tube station after an air-raid signal had sounded. (At the time no tubes were running through it, as it had not been opened.) It was used as an air raid shelter during the Second World War. Unfortunately in the wet conditions, and the rush to enter the comparative safety of the underground station, a woman tripped on the steps and fell. in seconds around three hundred people were in the stairwell and because of the crush 173 people died. As a result of German bombings, it has been estimated that around 555 people died in Bethnal Green during the war, but, of course, this did not happen on one night.
Solicitors in Bethnal Green
Nowadays, if you had an accident going down the steps of a tube station, you might be able to prove that it was not your fault, but the result of another person’s negligence or reckless behaviour. You might then be able to make a personal injury compensation claim with the help of solicitors in Bethnal Green, or others closer to where you live. You may, for example have been pushed and fallen as someone snatched your handbag or stole your wallet, in which case you should report the crime to the police and seek medical attention. You would then have two years from the date of the crime in which to claim personal injury compensation through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).
Victim of a crime?
