The residential suburb of Churchtown is situated in the south of Dublin in Ireland and it is on the southside of Dublin where the Irish footballer, Robert “Robbie” Keane was born and raised. Robbie Keane currently plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy in the American Major Soccer League and also for the Republic of Ireland national team. He has made his name as a dependable goalscorer and for the national team he also gets involved in the midfield to start attacking plays.

Keane holds a variety of goal scoring records including the all-time leading goal scoring for Ireland record with 62 goals that he scored between 1998 and 2013. Keane compares well to other national team goalscorers with only Germany’s Miroslav Klose ahead of him in goals scored by active players for the national team. At the 2002 FIFA World Cup held in South Korea and Japan he was Ireland’s top scorer with his three goals and a converted penalty in a shootout. Before he scored his 50 goals for Ireland, no other male Irish player had achieved this feat.

In terms of club records, he was prolific for Tottenham Hotspur and scored 126 goals for them which made him the eleventh best goalscorer in the Premier League’s History. Keane started his professional football career at Wolverhampton Wanderers and made an excellent debut in the first team with two goals when he was 17. In the next season he would nail down a first team spot and lead the club’s goalscoring charts. He quickly became hot property and changed clubs many times between 1999 and 2002.

Keane was not able to repeat his Wolverhampton form for Leeds United and Internazionale but his career was reinvigorated on his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur in 2002. At Spurs, he won the League Cup and set a career record haul of 23 goals in 2007-08. In 2008, he joined Liverpool but returned after only six months after struggling to recreate his Spurs form. He would go on to play for Glasgow Celtic and Aston Villa before he would make the trip to his current club, Los Angeles Galaxy.
