When it comes to matters pertaining to personal injury, there are people who take great delight in stopping the hands of justice from performing at their peak. Let’s take a look at some of the myths and old wives tales which are currently doing the circuit.
Solicitor in Bow: To believe or not to believe, that is the question.
“You must be present in court to receive any form of compensation.”
Absolutely not true. In fact most solicitors do everything in their power to avoid a costly court case. In most instances only 4% of claims go to court which is a very small number considering the amount of cases a solicitor will handle throughout the year.
“Claims involve years of complex fighting.”
Again, not true. It is in the interest of a solicitor and client to wrap things up as quickly as possible. Most aim to reach a settlement within 9 – 12 months. A disputed case will take longer to reach a conclusion but a solicitor will never allow the third party’s insurers to drag things out unnecessarily.
Solicitor in Bow: Quashing those rumours
“You won’t need a solicitor, you can deal with insurers yourself.”
Yes, you can but remember that they have one objective and that is to keep costs to an absolute minimum hence, the reason why a solicitor is worth his weight in gold. A professional eye will be able to spot those insulting settlement offers and push for the exact amount that their client is entitled to. There can only be one winner, don’t let it be the third party!
“If you claim against your employer you can kiss goodbye to your job.”
Most employers actually encourage you to make a claim as they are not directly responsible for settling the amount required. Compensation is paid via their liability insurance. Most would welcome you back to the fold as soon as you are healthy and able to return and would never dream of dismissing you. Whilst recovering from a work related injury an employee continues to be protected by the law. However, those who have been at their place of employment for less than twelve months may not have the same rights.
Solicitor in Bow: Stopping wrong advice from travelling at the speed of boredom
“The law will never be on your side, it is there to protect large companies and employers.”
In some countries this may be true but in the UK it is quite the opposite. In fact British law offers more compassion and consideration for the small man than anywhere in the world. The public can rest assured that their rights are completely protected whenever they fall victim to an injury which was caused through no fault of their own.
