Slips, trips and falls in Flintshire

About one third of all the accidents that happen in the UK are slips, trips and falls, many of which occur in the workplace. They take place mainly because employers do not comply with the health and safety measures they should. The consequences of this can be dire. Every year, workers are seriously injured or lose their lives in slips, trips and falls in Flintshire that happen at work.

The slips, trips and falls in Flintshire that can happen at work

They are many ways these accidents happen, such as:

    • Workers slip on spillages on floors. Depending on what sort of job they are in, the damage can vary greatly. If they slip on a spillage on a shop floor, they could fall into racks of stock, which falls on top of them. If they work in a factory, they could land on moving machinery.
    • Tripping over loose flooring is not unusual in workplaces, and often results in the victim falling down stairs.  Alternatively, workers can trip on trailing wires and bang their head as they land, causing them to sustain a head or brain injury.
    • Falls in the workplace are the accident that is most likely to end with the victim losing their life, especially if that fall happens to be from a height. There should be safety measures in place to stop this occurring, but not all employers are compliant with the regulations.

Slips, trips and falls in Flintshire are by no means the only accidents that happen at work, they are just the most common type.

How employers should prevent slips, trips and falls in Flintshire

Employers have a legal duty to protect the health and safety of their employees while they are at work, and failure to do this can result in prosecution from the government’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE). They can also have to deal with a personal injury claim for compensation from the employee that was injured in the accident.

No one can ever guarantee there will not be an accident at work, but following the health and safety laws will at least reduce the risk of it happening.
