    Slip, trip and fall compensation

    Slip, trip and fall compensation

Slips, trips and falls are among the most common form of accident in the UK. People are suffering accidents which are caused by defective surfaces or inadequate warnings to alert them to the dangers. Defects in the floor surface can include cracked pavement surfaces or uneven paving slabs. Generally, a pothole that is more than an inch deep or paving slabs with a difference in height of over an inch would be deemed to be defects.

Slippery floor surfaces can be caused by using the wrong flooring material, such as not using a non-slip material in an area where the floor is likely to get wet. They can also be caused by something on the floor surface. This could be something which has not been cleared, such as snow or ice in the winter, or a spillage that has not been dealt with.

Inadequate warnings could include situations where the floor has just been cleaned and there was no warning that it was still wet and could be more slippery than usual.

How to claim slip, trip and fall compensation?

If you think that you deserve some slip, trip and fall compensation, you must make your claim within three years of the date of the accident. It is important to keep evidence of your accident, including photographs of whatever caused your slip, trip or fall accident as proof. If you have a camera on your phone and have not been injured too badly, it is best to do this at the time of the accident, because things can change later.

In addition to an amount for your pain and suffering, your slip, trip and fall compensation may also include payment for any out-of-pocket expenses resulting from the accident. As such, it is also important to keep evidence of these out-of pocket expenses, such as receipts or travel tickets if you have had to visit a medical specialist.
