It goes without saying that the amount of traffic on the roads has increased exponentially over the last few decades. But are they more dangerous? Are there now more road traffic accidents, or less?
Road traffic accidents: the statistics
Accidents involving motor vehicles, such as cars, are on the decline; the number of people injured or killed as a result of crashes has fallen in recent years even though the average mileage has risen. Of course, that doesn’t mean you’re completely free from the risk of an accident – particularly if you’re a cyclist.
While car drivers still make up the largest proportion of road traffic accident victims, they are no longer the most likely to be killed or suffer life-changing injury. That dubious accolade goes to other road users such as motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians. It’s also worth noting that motorways are not the worst offender when it comes to crashes, accounting for only 4% of road traffic accidents. You’re far more likely to be involved in a crash on an urban street.
If you’ve been involved in a road traffic accident in the last three years and it wasn’t your fault, have you considered claiming compensation? You may be entitled to; the payout is designed to cover any medical expenses, loss of earnings or other costs incurred as a result of your injuries as well as providing a lump sum for the injury itself. Amounts awarded will vary on a case by case basis.
If you’ve been involved in an accident, there are things you can do that will definitely help make any subsequent injury claim in Wiveliscombe a success. Taking the full details of any other involved parties and/or witnesses is a great start, as is calling the police to attend the scene. Photographs are also a great idea if at all possible.
You should also make a note of exactly what happened, as well as keeping records of any medical attention you receive in the aftermath.
