    Manchester road traffic accident claim

There can be many causes of road traffic accidents. A Manchester road traffic accident claim involving a young, inexperienced driver is something that we here at Accident Advice Helpline handle all too often

Young drivers aged 17 to 19 years old only make up 1.5% of licence holders in the UK; however they are involved in 12% of fatal and serious crashes. Young drivers are at a much greater risk of crashing than older drivers. This is partly the reason car insurance for younger drivers is more expensive.

    • Drivers aged 16 to 19 years old are more than twice as likely to suffer a fatality in a crash than drivers who are aged between 40 to 49 years old.
    • 1 in 4 18 to 24-year-olds crash within 2 years of passing their driving test.
    • Young male drivers are involved in more accidents than young females.

If you were involved in a car accident caused by a young, inexperienced driver, Accident Advice Helpline can help you to file a Manchester road traffic accident claim.

Why do young drivers have more accidents?

Part of the reason younger drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident is that they lack experience. This inexperience means they may not spot hazards or know how to drive in certain conditions, for example on icy roads.

Younger drivers are also more likely to take unnecessary risks as they are over-confident. They may think that as they have mastered the practical side of driving they are skilled drivers; however as they have not spent that much time on the roads, they are yet to experience the many things that happen and go wrong.

Younger drivers also tend to have poorer concentration, are less visually aware and are less able to make sound judgements.

    Common reckless behaviour

    • Speeding
The newly found freedom of driving often leads to young drivers wanting to feel the thrill of speed. Peer pressure may also play a part in a young driver taking risks.
    • Drink and drug driving
Young drivers have the highest rates of drink and drug driving crashes.
    • Not wearing a seat belt
Young people are more image conscious and think wearing a seat belt is not ‘cool’.
    • Using a mobile phone
Younger drivers are more likely to take risks and are more easily distracted.

If you are a new driver you should be taking extra care on the roads. By driving carelessly and recklessly you are endangering the lives of people around you.
