Filing personal injury compensation claims in Northumberland

If you believe that you have a personal injury compensation claim to make and you live in Northumberland, contact us at Accident Advice Helpline. We can give you information about filing personal injury compensation claims in Northumberland.

What do I need to prove?

In order to make any personal injury compensation claim, you have to be able to prove that you were not responsible for the accident in which you were injured. You also have to be able to prove that another person was responsible for it. Our legal people at Accident Advice Helpline can help you build your case.

You should have received medical treatment for your injuries as soon as you could have done after your accident. This can be proven with your medical records. You need these because they describe your injuries and they will be used to work out how much compensation you might receive for them if your claim is a successful one.

How much compensation might I get?

We can’t accurately tell you how much compensation you might receive for a successful claim because there are so many things to be taken into consideration, not just the extent and severity of your injuries. If you want a rough estimate of the total amount you could receive, take our 30 Second Test; but remember this is only an estimated figure.

You receive compensation for various things. This is because it is designed so that you are not worse off financially than you were before your accident.

Compensation is split into two categories, general and special damages. General damages are for the pain, distress and suffering your injuries have caused you. They can also be awarded for loss of amenity. This means that if you can no longer do something, such as a sport or hobby, that you enjoyed doing before your accident, you can be compensated for your loss of enjoyment. General damages are calculated on the basis of your medical records.

Special damages are so that you can be reimbursed for any expenses that you incurred solely because of your injuries. These include the cost of prescriptions, medical care (past and future), medical treatment and so on.
