    When do you call personal injury and accident solicitors?

    Firstly, ask yourself why? If you have been on the receiving end of an accident in the last three years and that accident was someone else’s responsibility, then the chances are that yes, you do. But before you jump into the phone book and making a claim with a company of personal injury and accident solicitors, let’s look at some of the facts relating to claims.

    When should you claim?

    If you have suffered an accident or injury within the last three years and can prove that someone else’s negligence was to blame, then yes you can. That is as long as there was a resulting injury to yourself. Falling over an abandoned bucket is not in itself enough — you have to suffer an injury as a result.

    So, what is an injury?

    The correct definition of a personal injury is that is it is an “injury to the body, mind or emotions.” This means that you have received some physical or mental harm as result of the incident. If you can prove that as a result of the incident you were hurt or suffered emotional or mental problems since then, you have a right to make a compensation claim.

    Proof

    The key word in all of this is “proof.” It is no good ringing a professional guidance body such as Accident Advice Helpline and telling us that you suffered a broken ankle. We will want to know how, where and why the injury occurred. You will have to prove that you attended a medical consultation about your injury, or be prepared to attend one, and ideally will have all records kept safely. Witnesses to any accident are always useful and you should have their names and contact details to hand before you start your claim.
