North West Leicestershire is a local government district within the ceremonial county of Leicestershire, in the East Midlands region of the United Kingdom. The district features the main town of Ashby de la Zouch as well as the East Midlands Airport, which operates short haul flights all over the UK, as well as some to Europe and other destinations.
The region surrounding and including the district has a long association with mineral extraction, having long been home to coal, brick clay, gravel and granite extraction. All of the district’s deep coal mines have long since closed, but there is still a good deal of open cast mining within North West Leicestershire.
The Formation Of North West Leicestershire
North West Leicestershire, as a local government district, was officially formed on the 1st April 1974. This came about due to the Local Government Act of two years earlier, which set out a widespread reorganisation of local government all over the UK.
In the case of North West Leicestershire it created the new district from a merger of Ashby de la Zouch Urban District, Ashby Woulds Urban District, Coalville Urban District, Ashby de la Zouch Rural District, Castle Donington Rural District and Ibstock from the Market Bosworth Rural District.
Present Day North West Leicestershire
Today, more than 40 years after its formation, the district of North West Leicestershire covers a total land area of around 108 square miles and is home to 93,700 permanent residents. This gives the district a population density of approximately 860 per square mile which is a not inconsiderable figure.
We mention these population density statistics as they suggest to us that accidents and injuries may be comparatively common in the district and as such in North West Leicestershire compensation claims could also be relatively likely.
