    Do you need non fault accident help following a car crash caused by someone else?

    If the other driver’s insurance company has accepted that their policyholder was to blame for the accident, that insurance company will usually arrange for your car to be repaired using one of their authorised repairers. The insurance company may also arrange a courtesy car for you to use while your own car is being repaired.

    This is the quickest and easiest way to get your car back on the road because it means that you don’t have to spend time getting estimates from different garages. However, it doesn’t address the issue of compensation for any injuries you may have sustained during the accident.

    Claiming compensation for injuries sustained in a non fault accident

    You do not have to prove who was at fault if you are involved in a non fault accident, so in theory it is easier to claim compensation for any injuries you have sustained. However, you still have to quantify the amount of your loss, which could include amounts for:

    • Pain and suffering
    • Out-of-pocket expenses
    • Loss of wages
    • Future losses

    It is important to keep receipts so you can prove any out-of-pocket expenses you’ve had in recovering from a non fault accident. Importantly, remember to keep your past payslips if you have lost any wages as a result of having to take unpaid time off as a result of your injury.
