    When you initiate a compensation claim there are often many questions you may have about the process – what it involves, how long it will take and what you have to do. You will also no doubt have lots of questions about the compensation that you are entitled to receive.

    In an attempt to save you time and energy in seeking the answers to these questions, here at Accident Advice Helpline we have put together some information that we hope you will find helpful.

    How long does it take to get compensation?

    Unfortunately this is not an easy question to answer as every claim is different. It could take a few weeks to secure your claim, or there may be negotiations going on for years.

    Ultimately there are two things which are likely to affect the amount of time taken to finalise your claim. Firstly determining who is to blame for the accident you have been involved in can take time. It may be that liability is disputed, or flatly denied. In these situations then further investigations have to be undertaken, and negotiations have to be entered in to. It may even be a case that additional information is required and expert opinion is sought. All of this can take considerable time.

    The second thing is the compensation amount itself. When people start to query the amount that they have been awarded, or the offer that has come through, then negotiations about trying to increase it can take time. In such a situation it is best to rely on the expert advice of your solicitor – they will be able to guide you in the right direction and your no win no fee specialist compensation advice in Rushcliffe will help you understand whether what you have been offered is suitable for the injuries you have sustained.

    How much compensation will I get?

    Again, this can be a tricky question to answer as the compensation you will receive will be based on a number of different factors. Firstly, the type of injuries you have sustained. The more severe your injuries, the more compensation you are likely to receive. You can take our 30 second test to see how much you could be entitled to receive.

    You will also be entitled to compensation for any out of pocket payments you have had to make (such as childcare arrangements, travel and medical treatment or prescriptions). You can also reclaim money you may have lost through loss of income. Your solicitor will be able to help you reclaim all of this as your claim progresses.

    To discuss your claim with no obligation and in confidence, ring our helpline on 0800 689 0500 – or 0333 500 0993 from a mobile;
