Keep your child safe from poisons
Children are naturally curious and this can be a constant worry to parents. They often try to explore new things by putting them in their mouths, and this leads to choking hazards and of course a risk of poisoning.
This is why you need to keep them safe from medicines, food, gardening poisons and cleaning products.
Keep cleaning products, medicines etc on high shelves and out of sight. Because cleaning things particularly often have brightly coloured bottles, when children see them they may well be curious. Make sure they don’t catch their eye.
Make sure the high shelf is safe though, if they topple off they may cause more damage due to spills or hitting you or your child on the head.
Alternatively you can put these dangerous substances in a cupboard that the child cannot open due to safety catches.Open Claim Calculator
Don’t Decant Cleaning Products or Medicines
Keep everything in its original packaging as it will have instructions about what to do in an emergency.
Call an ambulance straight away if you think that your child has ingested even a tiny bit of any kind of poison. Remember that they are much smaller than you are, and small amounts of anything that an adult may survive could be deadly to them.
Read labels carefully. Follow directions to the letter when giving your child medicine.
Get rid of any old or out of date medicines or vitamins. Take them back to a pharmacy who can safely dispose of them for you.
