Nelson is a town and civil parish found within the borough of Pendle, in the ceremonial county of Lancashire in the north west of England. The town is situated approximately four miles from the larger and better known town of Burnley and is also on the course of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
It was this location on the canal which helped the town to grow during the Industrial Revolution, when the connectivity offered by the trade route allowed the settlement to become one of a number of notable mill towns in the Lancashire area.
The History Of Nelson
The settlement which is now known as Nelson actually began life as two separate villages known as Little Marsden and Great Marsden. As has been mentioned above, these settlements were spurred into growth by the coming of transport links such as the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the railway and it was the latter which led to the change in name of the settlement.
This was the case as the national railway network already had a station called Marsden and as such the new station was named the Nelson Inn, after the nearby public house of the same name, and that moniker came to be associated with the settlement. As the town developed it came to be based on both the textile and confectionary industries and the decline of these industries led to a good deal of unemployment and deprivation in the area.
Modern Day Nelson
In spite of the decline of its traditionally important industries, Nelson remains a truly significant urban centre and the just under two square mile urban area is in fact home to well over 25,000 permanent residents. This gives the town a population density of approximately 16,000 per square mile which is very high and also means that the town will inevitably have a high accident and injury rate. It is for that reason, therefore, that it is worth briefly discussing Nelson compensation claims.
Nelson Compensation Claims
As is the case elsewhere in the UK, in Nelson compensation can be sought if an accident or incident that was somebody else’s fault causes you an injury. The party at fault for the incident could be another individual or an organisation and Nelson compensation claims tend to often follow incidents like road traffic accidents, slips, trips or falls.
