How much can you claim in a car accident

The question how much can you claim in a car accident? cannot be answered. For one thing you cannot claim an amount of compensation; you can only be awarded compensation for an injury. The amount of compensation you receive will depend on your injury and your personal circumstances. As all accidents and personal circumstances are unique, no one can tell you how much compensation you may receive.

How much can you claim in a car accident?

If you were injured in a car accident that was in no way your fault, then you can claim from the other driver’s (or drivers’) insurance company. If the driver was on the road illegally and was not insured, then you can still claim by going through the Motor Insurer’s Bureau (MIB). The question not to ask is how much can you claim in a car accident? You should ask how much can I claim for the injury I suffered in a car accident?

What to do immediately after a car accident

First of all, you have to establish that the other driver was to blame for the accident and to do this you will need supporting evidence. Photographs taken at the scene of the accident are useful supporting evidence. If anyone is injured in the accident, then the police and an ambulance should be called. You should ask for the names and contact details of any witnesses to the accident, and exchange insurance details with the other driver involved. You should make a note of the other vehicle’s registration number as well as the make, model and colour of the vehicle. Make a note of the weather conditions, lighting and the condition of the road.

    Making a claim

Making a claim may be straightforward and only the insurance companies are involved, but there times when you need the services of an accident or personal injury solicitor. These could be when you are not offered sufficient compensation for the damage to your car and your injuries by the other driver’s insurance company, or when the accident involved an uninsured driver. An accident solicitor may be able to help you answer the question: How much can you claim in a car accident? after you have explained all the facts about your car accident and given details about your injuries (both physical and psychological).
