How much is my accident claim worth?

One of the most common questions we’re asked here at Accident Advice Helpline is, ‘How much is my accident claim worth?’ It’s normal to want to know how much compensation you could receive before you decide whether or not to go ahead with a personal injury claim, but unfortunately this is quite a difficult question for us to give a straight answer to. That’s because when you make a claim for personal injury compensation, there are so many different things to take into account. For example, things like:

    The severity of your injuries

How your injuries have impacted your life and your ability to work:

    • What treatment you have needed
    • How much time you may need to take off work
    • What expenses you have incurred as a result of your accident
    • Your prognosis for the future – will you make a full recovery?

These things help us to calculate your personal injury settlement, and Accident Advice Helpline handles every claim individually.

How much is my accident claim worth for life-changing injuries?

Generally speaking, the more serious your injuries, the more compensation you could receive for them. So if you have suffered a brain injury which has left you unable to work or care for yourself, you’re likely to get more compensation than somebody who suffered whiplash and will make a full recovery in a few weeks. But rather than asking ‘How much is my accident claim worth?’ it’s a good idea to do some research by yourself, to see how much compensation you could get. It’s true that you’ll find compensation tables online which give an idea of similar settlements for people who have suffered the same type of injury as you, but bear in mind that these should only be used as a guide and may not even be up to date or accurate. A far better thing to do is to use a personal injury calculator to find out how much compensation you could receive. Not all calculators are created equal though!

    Using Accident Advice Helpline’s calculator

On our website, you’ll find the 30-second calculator which will give you an idea of what you may be able to receive if your claim is successful. You’ll be asked a few questions, and provided you can answer ‘yes’, you should be given a quote for what you could receive. Bear in mind that this is only a very rough guide and isn’t representative of the exact final figure you will get when you proceed with a claim. We’ll need to find out much more about your accident and injuries in order to help you. But for some people, this can be the nudge in the right direction that they need in order to proceed with a claim.
