Melton is a local government district which also holds borough status within the ceremonial county of Leicestershire, in the East Midlands region of England. The district borders South Kesteven, in Lincolnshire, to the east, Rutland to the south, Charnwood to the west (along the A46 Fosse Way) and Rushcliffe and Newark and Sherwood in Nottinghamshire to the north.
Notable settlements within Melton include the principal town of Melton Mowbray, from which the district takes its name, as wells as the likes of Asfordby and Bottesford. The district is also notable for being home to the well known Vale of Belvoir, a popular place to live due to its scenic and picturesque surroundings.
The Formation Of The District Of Melton
The district of Melton was officially formed on the 1st April 1974 as a result of the passage of the Local Government Act of 1972. This act reorganised local government on a national scale and in the case of Melton created the new larger district from two smaller former entities. These were the Melton Mowbray Urban District and the Melton and Belvoir Rural District.
The Population Of Melton
According to the most recently released population data, an estimate from the year 2011, the district of Melton is home to approximately 50,500 permanent residents. This gives the district a comparatively low population density of 270 per square mile and suggests that it will not give rise to very many accidents or injuries. This does not mean, however, that none of those injuries which do occur in the district can lead to Melton compensation claims being possible.
Melton Compensation Claims
Similarly to the rest of the UK, in Melton compensation is available if an accident or injury which was definitively somebody else’s fault, causes you to suffer an injury. For example, if a road traffic accident caused by another road user leads to an injury then you may be entitled to pursue your own Melton compensation claims proceedings.
