    Leicester personal injury claims

When someone decides to make a claim for compensation it is one of the jobs of their Leicester personal injury claims solicitor to make sure that they are independently assessed by a medical expert.

Your Leicester personal injury claims solicitor will arrange an appointment for you and will do all they can to make sure that the expert you need to see for your appointment will be as local to you as possible. Remember though, any time off from work that you need to take to attend this appointment, or any other additional costs associated with this travel can be recovered as part of your compensation if your claim is successful. All you need to do is provide your Leicester personal injury claims solicitor with the associated information and receipts, and they will do the rest.

Why do you need to see a medical expert?

Many people making Leicester personal injury claims wonder why they have to be seen by an independent medical expert. This is not an unfair question to ask, especially when you have already provided access to your medical records.

The simple fact is that your medical expert is there not just to prove that you have suffered the injuries that you state you have. Obviously your medical records at the time of your accident and injury will do this. The medical expert is there to assess how you have recovered from your injuries, and what impact they have had on you since the time of your accident.

Generally speaking, your Leicester personal injury claims solicitor will not arrange for you to be seen by this expert until a few months after your accident. The logic here being that you will have fully recovered, so you can talk about your accident retrospectively. However, depending on the severity of your injuries there is a chance that you will still be in a recovery period. If that is the case then it is still useful to have the appointment as your medical expert will be able to discuss ongoing problems and how they are affecting you at this moment in time.

    The report

Your medical expert will be in a position to write a report detailing your condition after his/her appointment with you. This report will then be forwarded to your Leicester personal injury claims solicitor who will be able to use its contents to argue for the amount of financial compensation you should be awarded, based solely on the type of injury you have suffered.

The information contained will include how much longer recovery is likely to take, or if there are any complications or ongoing repercussions that need to be taken into consideration. For example, has your injury exacerbated an existing condition and had an impact on your quality of life?
