    Lawyer in Tilbury

Most people probably associate the name Tilbury with the famous Tilbury Docks as they are one of the three major container ports in the UK. Before they were built Tilbury was little more than a few houses, and the many workers who built the docks had to make do with temporary accommodation and boarding in other nearby towns and villages. Once completed, it was decided that new homes needed to be built for the workers of the docks, but unfortunately the housing problem was solved by the construction of tenement blocks that were very badly built. It was not until 1918 that the government provided funds to rectify the situation, and Tilbury District Council was formed.

There is no doubt at all that many of the workers would have been injured to varying degrees while they were building the docks, but in those days, ordinary folk could not afford to pay an injury lawyer in Tilbury to claim compensation for them, in case they lost the case.

These days, using our injury lawyer in Tilbury needs no upfront cash

For many years that has been the situation with compensation claims due to legal aid. Legal aid was means tested, but at least it helped the poorest of society to claim the legal right to compensation if they had been injured in an accident that was not their fault.

It still left many victims to struggle through though when they couldn’t work because they were injured, and in that era, employers did not keep your job until you were better. If you could not work someone else would take your place.

In 1998, legal aid was withdrawn for a number of areas, personal injury claims being one of them. In some civil cases, the conditional fee agreement was being used and the 1999 Finance Act allowed this to be extended to compensation claims as from April 2000.
