"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

The personal injury lawyer Stowmarket residents have access to for launching claims for compensation is AAH. The most common types of injuries are mostly things like slips trips and falls in the workplace, falls from height, repetitive strain injuries, and musculoskeletal injuries picked because of poor lifting techniques. But we also handle some of the more unusual injuries or injury scenarios too; things like getting hit by a train.

    Most fatalities are suicides

Collisions between trains and people are often fatal. The forces exerted by tons of metal hurtling along a railway line at high speeds, are almost unbelievable. Nothing that gets in the way stands much of a chance, least of all a relatively frail human body. Most of these deaths are suicides, many of which take place on the London underground.

The risks of travelling by tube

The highest incidence rate of injuries sustained relating to rail travel happen on London’s tube network. The accident database maintained by Transport for London recorded 18,677 accidents in the 5 year period 2006 to 2011. A basic breakdown shows:

    • Total number of injuries on all underground lines – 18,677
    • Incidences of serious injury – 835
    • Fatalities – 188

    The Jubilee Line

The worst line across the same time period was the Jubilee line, which alone, recorded 3165 accidents. Whilst in the main the vast majority of the injuries were minor, (things like cuts, bruises and sprains), there were some more serious injures too. A breakdown reveals:

    • Total number of injuries on the Jubilee Line – 3165
    • Incidences of broken and/or fractured limbs – 50
    • Incidences of dislocated joints – 30
    • Incidences of electric shock (non fatal) – 18

Most injuries take place on the escalators at tube stations.
