At various times in our lives, we all suffer illness or injury. Sometimes, this is down to our hobbies and thrill seeking activities but on occasion, it can also be as a result of our work. Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) is a phrase commonly used, but very few people truly understand the implications of this condition. There could be instances in which our lawyer in llanddeusant might be able to help you claim compensation, if the circumstance or situation you worked in contributed to you developing an RSI condition.

    An often misunderstood condition

RSI is an overarching term used to describe a variety of different conditions and illnesses that a person has developed as a result of constant overuse of the same muscle or body part.

There are two types of classification of RSI:

    • Type 1 – Is when the RSI injury is well-defined, in other words the injury can be directly linked to and aggravated by repetitive work tasks. A common example of type 1 RSI is the carpal tunnel syndrome, a painful condition that, in the worst case scenario, needs surgery.
    • Type 2 – This is when the injury is not so well defined but any swelling and pain cannot be attributed to a specific condition, such as those found in type 1 RSI cases. In this case, by looking objectively at work patterns and behaviour, as well as the use of the correct and appropriate equipment, breaks from repetitive tasks and stress, most people find that, with changes, they recover within 3 to 6 months.

It may be, however, that you feel the need for the legal advice and representation of our lawyers simply because you feel or know that your employer has not only contributed to RSI type injury developing, but has failed to take responsibility and change work patterns or equipment, for example.

Some people with RSI injuries suffer a huge amount of pain, as well as needing to endure some equally painful treatment to try and rectify the injury; this can be anything from intensive physiotherapy through to steroid injections and other medication.
