Medical negligence cases that require the filing of a claim in a lawsuit in London

A & E Departments are also known as emergency departments or casualty departments.

People with acute injuries or illnesses receive immediate medical care in A & E Departments which are sponsored by NHS. The services are free at the point of need for both residents and non-residents. Any medical negligence can be claimed in a lawsuit in London.

    • Heart attack – a patient with heart attack should be directed to a resuscitation unit for immediate treatment. The patient receives oxygen and is closely monitored. If not contra-indicated aspirin, morphine or diamorphine are given to control pain as well as nitroglycelin. If a main coronary artery is blocked administration of PTCA or thrombolysis is given.
    • Cardiac arrest – a patient can be brought by ambulance or cardiac arrest can occur in the emergency treatment. This is a life-threatening condition and so life support treatment should be given immediately.
    • Trauma – patients who have undergone traumatic situations like an explosion, a motor vehicle accident, motor-cycle accident, plane crashes or fall from heights sustain multiple injuries requiring emergency department services. In some instances, a trauma centre may be set up near the scene of the accident. Victims of the trauma can be rushed to an emergency department of a hospital or facility. The ‘’golden hour’’ is the first hour after an accident or onset of illness. If surgery and reperfusion are performed within this hour, survival rate of the victim is improved. Assessments and X-rays are performed while reperfusion and surgery within the first hour after the trauma improve survival rate of victims.
    • Asthma – those who suffer from severe asthmatic attacks may at times require intensive care with administration of oxygen, theophylline and in some instances steroids. Immediate chest X-rays should be done to assess the extent of the illness.
