Back in July 2014, a senior government minister declared that the reason there was so many people taking personal injury action after being involved in accidents that were not their fault was down to the fact that there was so many adverts for no win no fee* law firms in Exeter solicitors on daytime television.

Personal injury legislation and law firm in Exeter solicitors

The idea of protecting people from being sued for causing accidents that were not their fault while they were trying to “do the right thing” is a nonsense. Many law firms in Exeter have to seek pay-outs from people who might well have been attempting to do the right thing but were negligent while they were trying to do so. Clearing a footpath of snow may well be a well-intentioned act, but could do more harm than good if all this does is expose a load of ice that people could slip on.

Criminal laws exist to make sure that people who inflict injuries on others intentionally face justice. Personal injury law is there to protect people from accidents that are caused by negligence. A great many people who cause personal injury accidents could argue that they were trying to “do the right thing” when they made a mistake that caused a mishap, but this does not mean that they should not have to pay for the suffering they cause.

As for the minister’s claim that law firms in Exeter solicitor adverts on daytime TV were responsible for a rise in the number of claims, he seems to completely disregard the fact that people need to have suffered an injury for a personal injury law firm to represent them. These firms would soon go out of business if they were taking on spurious claims on a 100% no win no fee* basis left, right and centre.
