Quite a few Kingston upon Hull road traffic accidents are caused by drivers deciding to make an inappropriate turn, such as perhaps a three point turn, or a U-turn on a busy highway. If executed at the wrong time and place it can cause an accident that results in serious injury.
No U-turn areas
You’ll find that many dual carriageways here in the UK, (usually, but not always, single lane carriageways) display no U-turn signs, and there is a good reason why; it can easily cause an accident if someone tries to make such a turn. Firstly in involves slowing down, and more importantly causing other traffic to slow down, which, on a fast moving road, has obvious dangerous implications.
It the car trying to make an illegal U-turn comes to a halt and any part of the car protrudes into one of the carriageways; it poses an apparent danger of causing a collision, or forcing other cars to brake and swerve.
There is also the danger of emerging at slow speed onto a thoroughfare carrying traffic going at high speed; again with implications of causing other traffic to brake and swerve.
An inappropriate 3 point turn
If you suddenly realise that you’re driving in the wrong direction to wherever ever it is you want to get to, it can be tempting to stop and try doing a 3-point turn. Don’t – it can prove very dangerous, both to you and any passengers you may be carrying, and to other road users.
It is not a manoeuvre that other road users will be expecting, and the resulting surprise can be disastrous. Instead you should carry on driving, (even if you have to drive several miles) until you see an appropriate junction where you can turn your car round in a normal way.
Never force the issue – patience is a virtue
Although we are taught how to make 3 point turns to extricate ourselves from certain situations, the place where we choose to execute this sort of turn must be chosen with care, and at each stage of the manoeuvre, you must check the road carefully for other road users then clearly indicate your intention before moving out. Never force the issue. Wait for other drivers to stop and indicate they are prepared to wait while you carry out the turn. Patience is a virtue.
