Torrington is a commonly used abbreviated name of the village of Great Torrington, which is situated in the northern part of the county of Devon in the West Country. Much of the town is sited on high ground close to steep drops down to the course of the River Torridge, but some is found on the lower lying levels close to the river and as such can be prone to occasional flooding.
Torrington has been a significant location throughout history, with medieval and iron age castles and forts having been sited in the area, but it was during the English Civil War that the village held most historical importance. In 1646, the Battle of Torrington saw parliamentary forces sweep into the village to defeat the royalist forces led by Lord Hopton, in a skirmish that largely spelt the end of Royalist resistance in the West Country.
Despite this historical significance, in the modern day Torrington remains a relatively small village with a lower level of population to match, and this does mean that for an injury solicitor Torrington is not a likely source of personal injury compensation claims.
Injury Solicitor in Torrington
As mentioned earlier, for an injury solicitor Torrington is not a common source of compensation claims, but when it does produce claims they come in all shapes and sizes. For example, for an injury solicitor Torrington could give rise to a claim related to a road traffic accident, injury in a workplace and plenty more besides. Whatever the circumstances of a claim, potential claimants always tend to ask the same questions about the claims process.
When and Why is Compensation Available?
The law states that if you are injured or fall ill and it was demonstrably somebody else’s fault then you are entitled to seek personal injury compensation. This compensation is awarded as a means of recompense for the combination of physical, emotional and financial pain that you have suffered as a result of your ailment.
How Long is There to Claim?
If your claim regards an injury you suffered as a minor, or deals with an industrial disease such as asbestos poisoning, there is a different time limit as to when you can begin claims proceedings. Otherwise, you have a period of three years in which to launch your claim before your ability to do so lapses.
