Compensation claims for a spinal injury sustained in a football match should obtain an Injury Solicitor in Swansea
The city of Swansea is located in Wales and an air ambulance crew from the city was required to airlift a goalkeeper that suffered a serious injury to his spine during a football match at Llanwern High School in Newport. The goalkeeper, Darren Davies, was playing for the team, Pill AFC, in a match against Cromwell AFC in a Newport League match.
Davies suffered the injury after he made a save in the second half and threw the ball back towards a team-mate. He said that as he threw the ball, there was a painful twinge felt in his neck and he lost sensation in his lower legs and went into shock.
At first a normal ambulance was called to the football field but was not able to get access to the pitch so the air ambulance crew from Swansea was called and Davies was airlifted to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. At the hospital, doctors determined the damage to his spine and conducted an operation to remove two discs in Davies spine that had slipped which were the cause of the loss of sensation to his limbs and the pain he felt in his body.
It has been reported that Davies will have to undergo medical treatment for six weeks, then wear a neck collar for a few months and then participate in physiotherapy for a further 18 months to potentially make a full recovery.
The manager of Davies team, Brian Morris, said that he had retired from playing football two years ago but rejoined the team recently and this was his second match back from his hiatus. Davies himself had said that the incident was an accident and was down to bad luck so will not be making a compensation claim.
