"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

    Injury solicitor in Mattersey

It was a sunny day when it happened, and nobody was expecting it. We all woke up in a good mood, we had breakfast together and, unusually, nobody was fighting. You know what it’s like, in any family, someone is always in a bad mood. The kids are always a little bit mean to each other or are upset with one or both of the parents for whatever insignificant reason. Well, this morning, it was all happy. Now that I look back on it, it was like the calm before the storm.

Alan had to go to work. There are a few Saturdays in a year that he has to work, and this was one of them. We all kissed him good bye and told him we were looking forward to seeing him at lunchtime. Except that lunch never happened.

The hospital called, saying that my husband had been brought into hospital and asking me to go there right away. There were important decisions to be taken. I asked whether I should bring the kids along and they said yes. That couldn’t have been a good sign.

We almost lost him. He was in surgery and they had to fix pretty much everything about him. The accident was caused by a drunk driver, a young man who had been partying the whole night and was on his way home. He had fallen asleep behind the wheel, pushing the gas pedal.

Alan made it through, but couldn’t work for the rest of the year. It has been such an intense period for our family. If anything, it made us stronger and it made us appreciate even more what we have.
