What happens when the tyre blows on your motorbike – injury lawyers in Weston Turville

Although it is not a very common thing to happen, having a tyre blow out on your motorbike can happen and can be very frightening. Tyres can blow on cars and other vehicles as well, but in these cases you are at least protected by the vehicle around you. On a motorbike you are vulnerable to the elements, and are more likely to be thrown from your vehicle if the tyre goes when you are moving at speed. Here are some tips on how to deal with the situation if your tyre blows out.

    How to notice the signs

Before your tyre actually blows, there will be warning signs that you should try to notice and then slow down and stop somewhere safely to call for help. Your motorcycle will be difficult to steer as the air starts to go from one or other of your tyres. If you can tell which tyre is the problem then you should lean towards the one which is still okay. If the tyre is going flat then your bike will start wobbling uncontrollably and it is important that you try to stop as soon as possible. You should check your bike over before going on any ride, and if you notice baldness to the tyres, or any possible punctures you should not head out on your bike.

    How to stop

Stopping is not as easy as putting on the brakes with a blown tyre. Ease up on the throttle to start slowing down and try to stay in a straight line by focusing on the road in front of you. Don’t try to fight any wobbling, but simply focus on going straight for as long as it takes to slow down. Let the bike come to a complete stop and then push the bike out of the way of traffic on foot, rather than trying to ride anymore.
