Compensation claims for an injury from an accident caused by a stationary vehicle should seek an Injury lawyer in Welwyn Hatfield

The local district of Welwyn Hatfield is situated in the south of Hertfordshire in England and it was the site of a tragic accident involving a taxi driver colliding with a motorbike. The incident occurred when a taxi driver who was driving in the A1M road in Hatfield suddenly stopped and the motorbike behind the taxi crashed into the back of the vehicle. The motorbike rider who is known for being a part of the 1994 Winter Olympics British Bobsleigh team, Rob Pope, was killed at the scene of the incident.

The inquest into the incident was heard at St Albans crown court and the court heard how the taxi driver had stopped his vehicle while heading southbound near the Hatfield tunnel when he thought an object had hit the passenger window of his vehicle. The driver told how this put him in a state of shock, then stopped and put his hazard lights on while he waited for the police.

The taxi driver from Huxley Gardens who works as a driver for private hire pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him of death by dangerous driving on 22 March 2013. However, the jury convicted the driver of the charge after hearing the case evidence.

The jury heard of the driver’s insistence that he thought he had pulled his car over close to the central barrier but he was in fact stopped in the outside lane for fast vehicles. The judge stated that the taxi driver had made a dangerous hazard for the traffic in stopping in the outside lane. He did however express great remorse at his actions but nonetheless after being guilty was banned from driving for four years and will need to take a driving test again to regain his licence.
