How to have a social life when you are on bed rest and when to make an injury claim

For those with extremely busy lives, who are always rushing from one appointment to the next, the idea of bed rest might seem blissful. You are forced by a doctor to stay in  bed and rest for as many days or weeks are they suspect it will take for you to recover fully.

You will be able to catch up on your reading, watching television and movies, calling friends and family and so on. However, after a few days off this, the novelty may soon wear off, and unlike if you were just on holiday, you actually don’t have the option to choose not to rest anymore, as you are confined to your bed for as long as you need to be.

    • Call people. Make sure that you always have your phone with you and make the effort to call friends and family that you haven’t spoken to in a long time, so that you can rebuild your social life even from your own bed. This will keep you entertained and you can catch up with gossip from everyone that you haven’t seen in ages.
    • Use social networks. If you are not feeling well enough to call and chat, social networks are a great way to keep in touch with friends, and even meet new friends. You can update your own social networks, or just browse others and start conversations.
    • Have friends visit. Obviously don’t do this until you are feeling well enough to see people, but once you are feeling up to it, make a schedule with friends and family members so that they can come round on different days and sit with you. Even if you just watch movies, it can still help you to feel social.
    • Video chat. This is a great way of staying in touch and having a real personal connection with someone, without either of you having to get out of bed!
