The timescale for making an injury claim in Inverness

Generally you have three years to start an injury claim in Inverness, or anywhere else in the UK. But research shows that the sooner you start your claim, the more chance it has of being successful. This is probably because any evidence is fresher in the minds of all involved, so is more readily accepted.

As with many rules, there are exceptions to the 3 years time limit, some shorter, some long. The main ones are:

    • If you are injured in the air or at sea you only have 2 years to start your claim
    • If you were a child at the time of the accident, and no-one claims for you at the time, you have 3 years from your 18th birthday to pursue compensation
    • If you are claiming for an industrial illness or condition, you have 3 years from the date you are diagnosed. This is because these types of conditions can take several years to show themselves.

If you are not certain if your claim is within the correct timescale, have a chat to our friendly advisors to find out for certain.

The injuries you can claim for

No injuries are exempt from making a claim for as long as they needed medical attention. This does not mean they have to be serious, just that a doctor or hospital had to treat them. A report from whoever treated your injuries will be needed for your claim.

Sometimes we ask that a claimant attends a separate medical assessment. This is nothing to worry about and is just to strengthen your claim.
