If you need to raise an injury claim in Buckhaven that is related to a faulty gas appliance, or faulty work that has been carried out on a gas appliance, this article will be of interest. It’s about substandard work that was carried out on gas appliances in Norfolk that could have had disastrous results.
Fitter’s Gas Safe registration had expired
The work was carried out by a 49-year-old privately employed gas fitter who had been suspended from the Gas Safe Register. The trail that led to uncovering the substandard work began at a Chinese takeaway in Swaffham. After work carried out by the 49-year-old fitter was completed, owners of the premises had certain concerns about the appliances and called in a Gas Safe inspector who immediately condemned the appliances as being unsafe.
The Gas Safe organisation then informed the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) who set about issuing a Prohibition Notice banning the 49-year-old fitter responsible for the work from taking on any other gas work until the outcome of an investigation into his activities.
Bogus fitter was a prolific offender
It was discovered the man had been suspended from the gas safe registry in May 2010 because he had not had his work inspected in accordance with his contract of registration. However, the 49-year-old was also found to have carried out illegal gas work in Kings Lynn and other addresses in Swaffham, even though he had advised Gas Safe in writing he would not undertake any more such work. The man was given an eight-month prison sentence, but this has not yet been instigated as he’s receiving treatment for cancer of the kidneys.
Checking a Gas Safe fitter’s registration
This case underlines the importance of checking out the credentials of any Gas Safe registered fitter that you employ. As well, as taking a peek at the fitter’s registration card when he calls, you should also make a note of fitter’s registration number and check it out then and there on the Gas Safe Register website. It takes only seconds.Open Claim Calculator
