Injury Claim in Hessle

The town of Hessle is situated in Yorkshire, the North of England, and lies just 8 km west of Kingston upon Hull’s city centre. The town lies on the northern bank of the Humber Estuary, by the Humber Bridge crossing.

Reputedly, one former resident, a lady called Joan Stuteville, thought it a good idea if ladies rode side-saddle and promptly made it the fashion in the 13th century. It may have looked more dainty and “seemly” to the jousting knights of the day, but horsewomen were saddled with this uncomfortable way of riding for centuries to come.

Perhaps it was the reluctance to embrace this new-fangled contraption wholeheartedly that prevented the Hessle economy to rest on leather goods alone, for ship building was the main source of income for many years, along with chalk quarrying.

Hessle’s economy was for decades based on iron and steel ship building and there is still one remaining ship repair yard at the Humber Estuary in existence today. Several quarries can still be seen in the immediate surroundings of Hessle, the largest of them is located in the Humber Bridge Country Park, a beauty spot that reminds the beholder a little of the hilly landscapes of the Alpine regions and is therefore known as Little Switzerland locally.

Hikers often find their way to the Humber Bridge Country Park, since the Yorkshire Wolds Way, a long-distance designated national trail, starts at Hessle. The footpath traverses the Yorkshire Wolds and runs all the way to Filey, where it ends. It is easy for tourists and hikers to get to Hessle, as it has excellent transport links via rail and road to Hull, York and Doncaster.

If you followed a sign-posted or marked trail that was part of the national trail network and the sign-posting lead you into danger, you could claim compensation, if your unwanted detour resulted in an accident. It would probably turn out to be the deed of a reckless prankster, who turned a sign away from its original setting and pointed it elsewhere. It is likely a judge would have to decide on whether or not this is criminal injury.

For more straightforward accidents, such as road traffic accidents, medical negligence or slips, trips and falls, you can certainly make an injury claim in Hessle, provided your accident happened within the last 3 years.
