The town of Grange-over-Sands is located in Cumbria and benefits from the outstanding natural beauty of the South Lakeland District. Grange-over-Sands is a late Victorian fishing village-cum-town that was created at the then Lancashire coast. Blackpool, some 100km distance from Grange-over-Sands, offers air travel via its airport, while the nearest large cities are Lancaster, Manchester and Preston.
When it became fashionable to reside in seaside resorts for the summer, Grange-over-Sands received its own railway link in 1857. The seaside resort is located on the northern side of Morecombe Bay, and is still part of the Duchy of Lancaster.
While late Victorian tourists mainly enjoyed the fresh bracing sea air and the benefits of the local spring water when they booked into the local hotels and boarding houses, today’s visitors come to Grange-over-Sands as part of a tour of the southern Lakeland fells. Just above the town, perched 727 feet up on Hampsfield Fell, is the old hospice tower, from where visitors can enjoy splendid views over the foothills of the Lakeland fells and the town itself.
The tower is a much-loved local landmark and offers visitors the chance to identify other points of interest in the landscape, thanks to various painted boards showing a list of the surrounding peaks.
Tourist attractions nearby include the Lakeland Motor Museum at Backbarrow and the country house Holker Hall. Until spring 2009 locals and visitors alike could enjoy a dip at the public Berners Pool swimming pool, an award-winning new building, which turned out far less well designed than it had been given credit for. When structural problems were discovered, the pool, which had only been built in 2003, had to be closed for good. It is now scheduled for demolition.Open Claim Calculator
When a few years ago a terrible earthquake devastated parts of China, it was discovered that many buildings had collapsed – despite being supposedly earthquake-proof – because shoddy workmanship and inferior materials had been used in their construction. Corrupt officials had signed off on contracts with construction companies who creamed off huge profits by using unsuitable building material. Many hundreds of people died as a result and thousands were injured.
If the public pools in Grange-over-Sands had collapsed while people were enjoying a swim, there would quite possibly have been fatalities and many accident victims would have sustained serious injuries. Victims and their families could have made an injury claim in Grange-over-Sands with specialist solicitors.
