    We all hope that we will never have to make an injury claim at work. This is when we have been injured at work in an accident that was not our own fault and are claiming compensation from the person or organisation that was at fault. This is often the employer.

    Preventing an injury claim at work for office accidents

    1. Prevent slips, trips and falls by maintaining very good housekeeping. In an office environment there will inevitably be a lot of papers, files and boxes. They are delivered to the office and have to leave the office environment every day. If this process is carried out in an organised way it will prevent the build-up of obstacles and debris on the floor where it may come to present a slip, trip or fall hazard.
    2. Things have to be stored in offices but this storage should be stable and easily accessible. So, if things are stored up on high shelves then ladders or steps should be provided so that members of staff can access them safely and without putting themselves in danger of falling.
    3. There can be a lot of trailing cables in offices – there are many types of electrical and communication equipment. Things like computers, telephones, fax machines, photocopiers, laminators and projectors have many cables leading to and from them. However, trailing cables can present a serious trip hazard and should be avoided. The most effective way of preventing trailing cables is to have an adequate number of power and telephone sockets so that cables do not need to cross floor areas. If this is not possible then they should be fixed against walls or ceilings or they can be enclosed in appropriate covers.
    4. Sufficient lighting is an important element in preventing slips, trips and falls in offices and all areas should be adequately lit.
