I have been injured on holiday. What should I do?

First things first – get the paperwork!

If the police are called, you should ask the police offer to provide you with a copy of his or her report. This will help prove that the event leading to your injury was not your fault. The same goes for any medical treatment you receive. Request a report from the doctor or health professional treating you. For both reports, they should be on headed paper, dated and signed by the person compiling the evidence.

Make sure that you get any contact details of the police and/or medics who helped you – just in case you need to contact them for something when you get home.

Most important of all, keep photocopies of all your documents. Your family doctor will find it useful to have a copy of your medical report, especially if you need to continue treatment when you get home.
