Making an injury claim is the same as making a claim anywhere in the UK. It’s all about making sure you work with the best injury claim solicitor you can find. It doesn’t necessarily matter where they are, as long as they have a high profile website, and you have access to the Internet at home or in your place of work. Here at Accident Advice Helpline, the World Wide Web is where the vast majority of our business comes from. We can help if you’ve come to harm due to health and safety ignored at work in South Yorkshire.
Have you been harmed due to health and safety ignored at work in South Yorkshire?
Accident Advice Helpline handle many injury claims that result from fall from height accidents at work; one of the most prolific causes of serious injury. They usually happen because risk assessments have either been too sketchy and/or not enough precautions have been put in place. Take the case of a 53 year old worker in Glasgow for example.
Printing press broke the workers fall
The 53 year-old was a painter/decorator who’d been sub-contracted to do some roofing work. Perhaps due to his lack of experience with roof work, and the fact he was unsupervised, he stepped on a fibre-glass roof-light panel. The roof-light gave way, and the worker fell 5 metres.
A printing press on the factory floor broke his fall or he may have been more seriously injured. As it was, he gashed his leg, which needed several stitches; severely bruised his stomach, and sprained his wrist. He was extremely lucky as the fall easily have proved fatal.
Company ignored its duty of acre
The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) determined that the company who employed the subcontractor had made little or no effort to ensure the contractor took the necessary steps to prevent a fall from height incident. Basic precautions such as the use of barriers to cordon off fragile areas, or covers to place across the roof-lights, could easily have prevented the accident.
The company entered a guilty plea in terms of breaching Sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. They were fined the sum of £20,000 plus costs.
